Scoring Examples

Example: Award 6 points for rushing touchdowns

Add Rushing Touchdowns to your scoring system.
Rule: "At 0 touchdowns, score 0 points. Then score 6 points for every 1 touchdown."

Example: Award 3 points per field goal

Add Field Goals Made to your scoring system.
Rule: "At 0 field goals, score 0 points. Then score 3 points for every 1 field goal."

Example: Award performance points for passing yardage (SIMPLE)

Add Passing Yardage to your scoring system.
Rule: "At 0 yards, score 0 points. Then score 1 point for every 50 yards."
Rule: "At 100 yards, score 2 points. Then score 1 point for every 33 yards."
Rule: "At 200 yards, score 5 points. Then score 1 point for every 25 yards."
Rule: "At 300 yards, score 9 points. Then score 1 point for every 20 yards."
To cap the performance points at 400 yards, add:
Rule: "At 400 yards, score 14 points. Then score 0 points for every 0 yards."
Remember that milestone points do not stack on top of each other! Higher milestones supersede lower milestones, so at 200 yards, we have to grant (at least) 5 base points to compensate for the 0-yard and 100-yard milestones that are skipped over. If you want to grant a 3-point bonus at 200 yards, you would award 8 base points: 5 points gained normally while reaching 200 yards + 3 bonus points.

Example: Award increasing points for longer field goals (SIMPLE)

Add Yards On Made Field Goal to your scoring system.
Rule: "At 45 yards, score 1 point. Then score 1 point for every 5 yards."

Example: Award increasing points for longer field goals (COMPLEX)

Add Yards On Made Field Goal to your scoring system.
Rule: "At 45 yards, score 1 point. Then score 0 points for every 0 yards."
Rule: "At 50 yards, score 3 points. Then score 0 points for every 0 yards."
Rule: "At 55 yards, score 6 points. Then score 0 points for every 0 yards."
Rule: "At 60 yards, score 10 points. Then score 1 point for every 1 yard."

Example: Award 10 points for a shutout

Add Points Allowed to your scoring system.
Rule: "At 0 points allowed, score 10 points. Then score 0 points for every 0 points allowed."
Rule: "At 1 point allowed, score 0 points. Then score 0 points for every 0 points allowed."
Don't forget to add this last rule, where you explicitly specify 0 points at 1 point allowed. Remember each row is a milestone, and a stat value usually surpasses the milestone rather than lands directly on it. Without this last rule, any points allowed that are greater than 0 will qualify for the 0-points milestone, and we would end up accidentally granting the 10 points to any points-allowed total that is equal to or greater than 0.

Example: Award decreasing points for increasing points allowed (SIMPLE)

Add Points Allowed to your scoring system.
Rule: "At 0 points allowed, score 10 points. Then score -1 point for every 1 point allowed."
Rule: "At 10 points allowed, score 0 points. Then score 0 points for every 0 point allowed."
